ENVIRONMENT

A sustainable frontrunner

As one of the world’s largest producers of paper and office products, we feel a responsibility to support the sustainable use of the planet’s resources.

When it comes to sustainability, Hamelin is among the frontrunners in the industry. That is why, for example, all of our paper products are made from wood sourced from sustainably managed forests. This is important not only for the survival of forests, but also for the people whose livelihoods depend on them.

Certifications

The EU Ecolabel (EU Flower) and Blue Angel are all among the most well-known European eco-certifications.

We are committed to educating and informing our consumers about the environmental footprint of our paper products, thereby promoting more sustainable consumption.

Hamelin guarantees that:

  •  All product specifications are continuously reviewed to ensure compliance with the strictest environmental criteria – including requirements for the highest environmentally friendly specifications for raw materials used in manufacturing processes.
  • Only suppliers who can guarantee traceable deliveries and who have a policy for the sustainable management of forest resources are used.
  • No paper made from tropical wood is used.
  • No paper made from primary forests or from wood sourced from sensitive areas with endangered animal species is used.
  • The least environmentally harmful raw materials and auxiliary substances are used in production and manufacturing processes.

ACCREDITATIONS

EU Ecolabel (EU Flower)

The EU Ecolabel is the official European environmental label. It was established in 1992 by the European Commission.

It serves as proof from the manufacturer that consideration has been given to consumer health and the environment throughout the entire production process, from start to finish.

The label falls under the Ecolabel certification scheme, which takes the entire product life cycle into account – from raw material extraction and production to use and disposal.

The label indicates that limits have been set for undesirable and unhealthy substances in the product, and that the product is among the least environmentally harmful in its category.

The strict requirements for quality and performance ensure that EU Ecolabelled products are of the highest quality when it comes to sustainability and health.

Blue Angel

The Blue Angel is the German government’s environmental label. Introduced in 1977, it is the world’s oldest environmental certification.

Products bearing the Blue Angel label are more environmentally and health-friendly compared to other products in the same category without the label.

The criteria for obtaining the label are defined on the basis of a life cycle assessment.

The label is therefore comparable to the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and the EU Ecolabel. However, it is only found on recycled products, services and paper.
